But I want a PSP.

Before you throw the internets at me, hear me out.
I've LONG said that DS > PSP, and that I'd never get Sony's awful handheld.
However, some things are changing this opinion.

1) The Modding market. People are modding PSPs really easily and safely now, and are able to play PSX games as well as SNES games on them with no problems. This entices me a lot, as my DS can only run SNES games with no sound, or with other similar glitches (Chrono Trigger with no sound is like pizza with no crust)

2) Sony announced a new PSP model, with better battery life. That was one of my biggest problems with the original - the fact that as soon as it was turned on it would die. I want to be able to actually play a game. Now I could do that.

3) I still love my DS. I wouldn't scorn it at all. Flash Carding makes so much possible with the DS, I just want something in addition to it. It's like keeping your cake, while adding a refreshing piece of pie also. You'll still eat both, and it's better that way!

I wanna buy both.

But i'll probably buy an iPod first.

I don't have much time for gaming as I am almost always on the move, so a portal gaming system might make my life easier.

PSPs can play mp3s IIRC.

Especially if you mod them.

I'm looking for iPod functionality, though.

Get a DS. >:) They're so much fun. + Nintendo world wide interactive game play is far better then Sony's. Sony game entertainment will corrupt and be pushed underneith the carpet.

I love the psp. I just have a hard time using it at the gym when I want to play music.

Get the PSP, I love my PSP.
I got the PSP back when they first came out, and there weren't really any mods for it yet. So every time there was an update I would update.
Now I am kinda stuck on a version that people are having problems hacking and there for my PSP is kinda useless for what I bought it for.
I do not have $50 to throw out for a game that I will probally only play for a few hours and never touch it again.

Currently I am waiting for a downgrade and doesnt seem very likely here any time soon.
It also seems as though if you buy a PSP now they come unhackable.
Downgrading the PSP's now will actually brake them but I am not sure. I just know all the downgrades now want to make sure you have an older PSP.
Your best bet if you buy a PSP is to get on eBay and search for a PSP with the 1.5 firmware. Chances are if you buy one of the new PSP's like you are talking about you will not be able to do what you want with it and probally wont be able to do what you want with it for a long while.

Can't wait for PSP Linux to come out though :) that is going to be nice, might just have to sell my current PSP and buy a PSP with the 1.5 firmware.

GL in your decision though, just do some research on the PSP and what you want to do with it to make sure you get the correct PSP.

Only game I have ever played on the PSP was Wipeout Pure, only reason I played it was so I could get on the internet with it. But now there is a built in web browser :P

The Web browser was a nice function I think and is the reason why I updated and left the homebrew games. But I kind of like Madden games on the psp especially on long road trips.

Yea, the browser was one of the original reasons I even upgraded. But after that I just kinda didnt check the changlog before updating and soon just started downloading security updates that made my PSP undowngradable. So now I am just kinda screwed on I belive 2.5. There is a downgrader for it but I have to get a certain game for it.

I just say get on eBay and buy a 1.5 PSP and from there you can do just about anything you want with it. Just don't go to walmart or something and buy a brand new PSP off the shelf.

Meh, it's Sony we're talking about here, versus Nintendo. I know which one I'd choose.
